" E" Is for The Excelsior Hotel in Thomastown

Excuse us for taking photos of half eaten dishes but Mr and Ms X were ravenous after waiting and waiting and waiting for their meals. Ms X had asked for the sauce 'on the side' of her dish and chef forgot so chef had to redo it but then chef forgot about Mr X's steak and ale pie that was already in the oven baking and baking, so....... You know the rest! It was chef's FIRST DAY. So let us all forgive him the ONE TIME. And yes it was a male cos we all know that a female chef would have been able to multi-task on their first day.

Meal ordinary and not worthy of returning.  A bigger effort needed by both chef with his time management skills and Mr X in his selection of hotels!!! Ms X very unimpressed.  A rule was also broken with this selection of venues as Ms X had already been to the Excelsior Hotel- granted it was in another life.

Mr X scored them a: 5

"C" is for the CHELSEA HEIGHTS HOTEL- Chelsea

Think many 'are we there yet?' moments.
Think big.
Think 'children's playground' INSIDE!
Think at least six family birthdays being celebrated concurrently in the same space, each trying to talk over each other.
Got the picture?
Hmmm    What to say?

There are food-pictures as we were a little overwhelmed by everything and forgot.

"B" is for THE BRANDON- Carlton

Tucked away in suburban Carlton was this gem. Throw in an open fire, the footy on the TV and no pokies in sight and you have the makings of a good pub on a rainy, cold Saturday night.

Now, could the food deliver????

A Parma of course for Mr X

and fish 'n chips for Ms X

and a banana split to finish!

Mr X scored it a 7

Ms X was more generous with an 8

"A" is for THE ALBION- Port Melbourne

It was the 'opening night' of our NEW Alphabet Eats which would see us visiting pubs alphabetically.
Mr X was first cab off the rank so expectations were high. Our house was also being used for a dinner to which we weren't invited, so we also needed to prolong the night as much as possible.... maybe an entree?
Garlic toast and arancini balls
Fettucini pollo for Mr X whilst Ms X decided to do a 'George Costanza' and do the opposite to what she would normally do and order the meatloaf! The meatloaf was advertised as their 'signature dish'.It was worth hanging your hat on!
